The project DATA4PT focuses on technical and expert support for member states and public transport operators providing public transport data and advancing data-sharing practices in the EU public transport sector to enable the provision of EU-wide multimodal travel information services.
The harmonisation of data for public transport services should help providers to adapt to the ever-changing demand of mobility and the behaviour of public transport users. The technical and organisational activities of the project support the implementation of the European public transport data standards NeTEx (Network Timetable Exchange) and SIRI (Service Interface for Real time Information). The Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1926 on Multimodal travel information services (MMTIS) requires that mobility data providers use these European public data standards, making DATA4PT support activities critical enablers.
NeTEx is a technical specification of CEN, which provides the exchange of schedules of public transport and related data. SIRI is also a CEN technical standard for exchanging information of real-time public transport operations between different computer systems. Both are necessary for integrating new modes and sharing data for travel information services.
In June 2022, the project has published the first version of a data validation tool, which enables the validation of NeTEx datasets. In Austria, the development of the tool is supported by a collaboration of national associations and AustriaTech. The national stakeholders contribute to ensure that the tool is applicable for the Austrian context. The validation tool for SIRI data is also in the making, which will enable validating SIRI datasets.
To illustrate the various possibilities that NeTEx can offer, the DATA4PT team launched a new video series “Everything you need to know about NeTEx”. There NeTEx is presented from different perspectives in short 10-minute videos. The first video featured expert Christophe Duquesne, who provided a functional overview of NeTEx. Further videos on specific technical standard implementation will follow soon.
AustriaTech participates in the DATA4PT project on the one side as partner to contribute to the project activities, such as the development of the tool and bringing in national expertise from implementing MMTIS; on the other side as the Austrian ITS contact point and the operator of the Austrian National Access Point. AustriaTech supports Austrian stakeholders with the implementation of the technical standards.
In Austria, there are several activities planned for 2023 to offer support in implementing the technical standards and the MMTIS Delegated Regulation, such as stakeholder events and workshops. Follow the AustriaTech channels to stay up-to-date with events.
DATA4PT is a project within the framework of CONNECTING EUROPE FACILITY (CEF) and the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) under Grant Agreement No MOVE/B4/SUB/2019-104/CEF/PSA/SI2.821136.
